With dual quiet 80MM fans, one on the top and one on the back, the 550W Black Beauty power supply ensures excellent cooling performance. It supplies all components with high quality output with low noise and ripple. The whole body was coated with thick glossy painting for quiet performance. The power supply boast its design with dual 820uF capacities and other necessary components such as resistors of all kinds, which make it a perfect choice for entry level modders and gaming users.
Pros: I have a bunch of these on production systems and a couple on the shelves as backup. These systems have been using these supplies for over 14 months. They seem professionally made, unlike most supplies nowadays. The fans are silent and the enclosures are solid. The cables are long enough to reach in tall cases.
Cons: I paid 3x the current price over a year ago!! newegg shouldn't sell these so cheap or people will think they *are* cheap. For a 550W, I was surprised they didn't have more drive connectors or even an extra separate circuit, but it still easily supports 10+ drives in a dual-core system under load.
Overall Review: I don't understand all the bad reviews: Power supplies won't fry _good_ motherboards (overcurrent/overvoltage protection circuitry). If you're blowing components, you need to look for a better board manufacturer (e.g. Asus). All power supplies have slightly unsteady voltage rails (it's within the spec), which is why they have capacitors on the motherboards. Also under 10% tolerance on voltage is within the ATX spec. I've built my own switching power supplies and I'm amazed at the acceptable ranges for ATX power. None of my supplies seem to have any problems and I use them in beefy systems, where other 500W supplies have failed.
