How is the range? Does it work 10ft away from the receiver?

I've found that a direct line-of-sight connection between 'mouse' and 'USB-receiver works fine up to 15 feet or so. I've used it during presentations. It isn't a perfect replacement for a 'remote' device (for, say, presentations), but given that its a mouse, it actually performs that task pretty well.

What is the material used for the soft sides and the wheel?  I may be allergic to it.

Sorry, Christine. I can't tell you what the material is, but I'm using the mouse at the moment and have been very happy with it. Basically the soft sides improve the grip, but you probably already knew that! :-)

Yes,
There are no buttons on the side of this mouse.  The buttons on top representing the standard right click and left click can be customized through the Control Panel.  Using the default Windows driver you can select left or right.
