Question 1

I have a g700s and an MX1000 sitting on my desk.  I 'upgraded' from the MX1000 to the g700 primarily for the easier dpi switching and the fact that it charged from a chord, thereby giving uninterrupted use.  Plus, it's about the same weight as the MX1000 (still a bit lighter).

Sadly, the g700's battery life is abysmal.  Like, it tells me to plug in within an hour or two of unplugging. The mx1000 would give me a full day's use.

In terms of weight, and battery life between charges, how does the MX master compare to the mx1000 and g700?

Battery life is good and requires being charged about once a week for an hour or so on the cord - I use it about 14 to 16 hours a day, every day.  However, the glitch I have with it is the back button gets hit by my thumb too many times, as it is lower than on the other mice.  It is because of the thumb sideways wheel button that I could care less about move that button back further and when I pick it up my thumb inadvertently hits the back button and then I have to hassle getting back to where I was.  Irritating . . .  Otherwise a good mouse.

looking to upgrade from my MX Revolution.  I love my Revolution so much that I bought a second one for work.

My first question is, does the thumb wheel act as a button also?
Secondly, about the software, can the thumb wheel be set to control the PC volume?

Unfortunately, the side-scrolling wheel does not work as a button. But the software does allow the wheel to be re-mapped to several different functions, which includes volume up and down.

Works for me. I already had one of the unifying dongles, usb adapters for the Logitech keyboard I was using and though I used the new one that came with the mouse as I was swapping out an older Logitech mouse that connected wirelessly using a USB connection from the base unit recharger, the Logitech software asked if I wanted to use the dongle I was using for the keyboard or the newer unifying usb adapter.

I'm still using the one that came with my keyboard and have the one with the mouse kept as backup.

Have you gone to Logitech support for the mouse and read the actual manual and do you have the newest software. You need the newest Logitech software and the good is that it is backward compatible with the most recent, within the last few years, 3 or 4.

Just go to the Logitech site and get the downloads and then try to see if you can get the mouse to work. I've actually been able to connect the mouse to another machine with a unifying dongle as that is one of the features you can set the mouse to connect to up to three devices.

I'm using bot the radio setting and bluetooth, well I opt for radio not bluetooth though tested it with both settings.

Question 4

I have a solid and fast computer build, but it does not have built in bluetooth.  I would like to have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard.  Would I be able to use this mouse on my computer with bluetooth?  Does it come with a bluetooth connection device? Thank you

The mouse does not come with a Bluetooth reciever. It does however come with a Logitech unify receiver. I as long as you have an available USB port, you will be able to use the house and any other logitech devices that support Unify (which is most of their current line).

Can i use this mouse in a wired format? i.e, can i use the usb charging cable as the interface to actually move the pointer?

Question 6

Can someone who owns this mouse using it specifically with Windows 7 (which doesn't seem to be compatible with Bluetooth Smart) verify for me that it will NOT work WITHOUT the DONGLE supplied by Logitech? I don't have any open USB ports, but do have BT 4.0 specifically the one that comes with the Intel 7260 wireless card.

Yes this works without the USB port, however I have only used it on is 8 & 10

I have an old logitech mouse keyboard combo, i think it's an mx500 or something?(not sure) but they both run on bluetooth, i'm looking at replacing the mouse and just wondering if the usb dongle with this mouse works a generic bluetooth hub that i can connect various other devices to including but perhaps not limited to my current keyboard?

The USB dongle is proprietary to logitech. I know some of their other mice use it. This mouse has bluetooth as well. So you could use bluetooth without having to use a dongle at all if your computer has it built in.
