How many programmable buttons are there for gaming? The specs say there's 8 buttons, but I count 7 including the "scroll button"and "page forward/page back buttons" which on my M570 model are not programmable, other than these I only see the "thumb button" which isn't helpful for gaming and the "center 1, 2 button" which I don't quite understand. That's 7. Are there any programmable buttons?

6 buttons can be reprogrammed thru the software. The scroll wheel also acts as a button. The 1,2 button switches between radio frequency channels in cause you have another device interfering.

Will this mouse work over Bluetooth without a receiver hogging a usb port?

It will, however you will still need to anticipate that the mouse will need to be charged periodically using a usb cable

There are 6 programable buttons.
 Thumb, 2 on the side of left click, middle click and middle scroll left and right.
The button directly above the 1 and 2 are device selects and Bluetooth parring, non programable. left and right click also no programable.

Can someone verify that this is a 2 computer trackball?  I can connect to one via the dongle and the other through bluetooth?  It doesn't seem the product description mentions that.

I tend to use 5 for gaming, It's possible the left/right on the wheel could be 2 more options though.

The specs state this mouse has a maximum DPI of 2048. Is this correct or what are the actual DPI settings?

Doesn't say in the App just gives you a slider. I'm med core at FPS. it track well and you play a bit different because the ball has momentum if you flick it. tend to leave it a tad lower than I did my mouse once I settled into it.

Question 7

Can this run in wired mode via the Micro USB?  I used to swear by Logitech thumb-trackballs until they quit making a wired version. What can I say, I notice wireless lag, and it annoys me. If it runs in wired mode, then buying one would be a "no brainer" for me.

No, it is for charging only.  I just tested to make sure, there is no functionality over the cable.
