Can this keyboard be used to switch between a PC and a Mac, given that both support BT?

It has 3 different hot keys for switching between devices. I've hooked mine up wirelessly via Bluetooth on my PS3/4, my iMac, iPhone, iPad, and I would assume anything with Bluetooth can be connected. I've never actually tried on a Microsoft product. I do know that it won't work with the 360 or Xbox one because they do NOT have Bluetooth. Hope that helps.

What color is the illumination light and is the color adjustable?  I need red illumination.

I bought this to replace the wireless keyboard Wacom offered for the Cintiq Companions...The keyboard only offers white lighting.  No customization for builds at all.

Can this keyboard be used as a USB keyboard so I can use the F keys to access the PC BIOS?

this keyboard only connects via Blue Tooth. The USB port is only for charging. You must use blue tooth to connect to the computer/device for this keyboard to be used for input. If the device / computer supports bluetooth connections before OS boot up you could make it work. I would suggest going with a USB dongle type keyboard for that need. I use this blue tooth keyboard on my phone, laptop, and tablet without trouble but I don't rely on it as a bootup keyboard for any device.

What's the range like with using this keyboard?

Pretty far. I can use it two rooms over without issue. Some people complain that this keyboard constantly "turns off" and they have to continuously re-pair it. While this is true, it's not the fault of the keyboard, but Windows itself. By turning off the power saving mode in the device manager, you'll solve this problem 100%.

Will this work with Windows 10 Pro 64bit?

Yes, it will work with any Bluetooth enabled device that accepts keyboard input, PC, Phone, WIndows 7,81,10, Mac OSX, Linux, you name it.  I use it at work to connect to my windows 10 phone in continuum and my windows 10 NUC since it can connect to up to 3 devices at once.

So, I assume this has a USB plug in transmitter/receiver ?  Now what about the mouse ?

I'm not sure I understand your question.  It has an USB port which I use to charge it.  I'm using it on an iPad and connecting via Bluetooth.  If you have a Bluetooth mouse it should work independently of the keyboard.

The Logitech website indicates the k810 as being an encrypting keyboard.  Is it?  If so, please explain the feature.

My impression is that all of the Unifying devices use this kind of encryption automatically. But please verify for yourself: logitech  com /images/pdf/roem/Advanced_24_Unifying_FINAL070709.pdf

My guess is that a knowledgeable hacker who is sitting in range with the right hardware would have a shot at hacking the connection while it is first being set up--that is, when you've just bought it and are pairing it to the computer for the first time. After that, it would be much harder unless he had physical access to either the keyboard or the computer.

does it works with mac os x mavericks??

I don't know because I do not have a MAC. It does work well though with Windows 7 and IOS 7 (both my Iphone & Ipad).
Since it is a Bluetooth device, I would bet that it would work just fine with OSX.
