Is this a mechanical keyboard?

It is not a mechanical keyboard, but it is one of the highest quality membrane keyboards I've experienced. I just recently bought it to replace my G15 membrane keyboard which served me well for about 10 years. While there are plenty of benefits to a mechanical keyboard vs. membrane, Logitech built some pretty great tech to compensate. Their anti-ghosting system is reliable when pressing many keys at the same time. The gaming software for the keyboard and setting up macros is one of the best available too, much easier to use then many competitors such as Razer's Synapse.

If you are dead set on a mechanical keyboard, then Logitech does offer the G710 Mechanical Keyboard that offers plenty of features at a decent price (for a good mechanical keyboard).

Question 2

I have a wireless headset that uses a usb dongle which requires a powered usb port. Are the ones on the back of this powered?

I use the USB ports for my mouse and a game controller, and they seem to be working as if they were plugged into my tower. I don't see why they shouldn't because the keyboard itself has to be powered itself.

Question 3

I'm hesitant to purchase a membrane keyboard, but I like how this looks. Do the keys fade or become less responsive over time, and what the expected key lifespan is (in the million(s) of keystrokes)?

I've I had no trouble with the keystrokes of the responsiveness of the keys but the lights are extremely low Lit and I was surprised to see that having a keyboard that needs to be powered by an electrical outlet. Dim from the start. I regret buying it. Also has weird fonts on the keys. Period and comma are almost identical, "&" looks weird etc.

Question 4

Whats the difference between this and the older g19 model and does this one suffer from the same problems as the older one lack of tech support, faulty lcd screen the flickers and cuts out when it even works none existent software updates and third party programs?

No diff but some paint/texture.

Never had a Tech Support problem.

Never had a bad LCD.  "I have 2 G19s and 4 G19 only 1 has gone bad and logitech replaced the bad G19 with a G19s"

What layout is this keyboard using?

Standard keyboard layout with the programmable keys G1 through G12 on the left side. Three memory level buttons above those. Volume control, mute, and playback buttons on upper right. Light on/off just above the F12 key. Keyboard built in function buttons above the  F4/F5 buttons.

Can this be used without the screen so i dont have to plug it into the AC adapter?

Yes, you don't need to use the power ac adapter, if you use just USB only the keys will work, no screen or lights if I'm not mistaken, I own it and still use it.

i was wondering if this keyboard includes the arabic letters on it for middle east and africa ?
