Is this compatible with windows 8.1 because it says windows Xp, and windows 7?

would the wireless keyboard work with the computer being in a metal cabinet and the keyboard outside the cabinet?

Jeff, if the cabinet has an open back..this is to allow the Tranceiver  to have no metal to block it's signal, it should work. If the cabinet has an open back, plug the transceiver into a BACK USB port . This should work, I use mine in a HTPC, and it has metal on the front also and works just fine, hope this helps Ron

The width (front to back) is 6.25".  The length (left to right) is ~15".
The depth (top to bottom) is 7/8" without the risers. With the risers it's a little under 1 3/8".

How far is your keyboard from the receiver? How does it work at 10ft away?

The keyboard works fine at 10 ft and I have tried it at 15 ft and it works. 
I really like this keyboard since it has a caps lock light which some wireless keyboards do not.

What are the dimensions of the keyboard?  I am looking for a smaller wireless keyboard with ten key & mouse that will fit my desk.  Most are 17" but I'd like one 15" or smaller

Can someone measure the distance between the Q and P key please? I'm hoping to use this to be able to type one-handed, thanks

I am a woman who stands 5'4" and has an average build and handspan.
I can easily reach from the Q key to the P key, with about 1/2" to spare if I 'stretch' it.
Love this keyboard. It's smaller size makes it ideal to carry in my laptop bag since I can type faster on a 'regulation' sized keyboard as opposed to the laptop keyboard.
I actually have two of these keyboards. I use the other in my accounting business.

Is the unit all black or is it the two-toned black/gray? Even on the Newegg webpage for this it shows one picture where the unit is all black and on the same page shows the two-toned "black"

The entire back side and keys are more of a matte black and the top is a glossy black. All the same shade of black tho.

15" x 6".   This model keys are little too firm and high from my experience but seem to work fine.  Accessible keystrokes with keyboard on lap.  Maintain hands above keyboard improves technique.   It's a reliable remote keyboard.

Wish I could give specifics on weight, hopefully someone else will provide the exact weight for you. I believe it to be approximately 1.5 lbs, light however I have a much lighter wireless for my android Galaxy Tab 4. Size: 12"x 4.5" 
It's been extremely well performing for me. I 've had it for a year and half. Hope this helps
