How can you connect a mouse without using a second USB gismo?  Is there some Logitech software that allows the included USB to be used for this keyboard and some other Logitech mouse?

Logitech devices that have the Unifying symbol (sort of a 6 point sun on an orange background) can be paired to a single unifying receiver. There is Logitech Unifying Software available on their website to help facilitate this, or pair multiple devices to a single receiver, or pair devices to a new receiver, etc.

Question 2

Have K780 keyboard but no instructions for the white F1, F2, and F3 keys.  My system uses shift F1 to access certain functions but the keys on the K780 only light up.  Can someone explain why they don't work and tell me what I need to do to have them function regularly?  Thank you.

Hols the function button before pressing any of the function keys and they should work regularly. So in your situation you would press the fn key at the bottom left section of the keyboard while pressing shift and F1

Because there is a Speckle and solid White version of the keyboard. Why they don't add k780 into the title is beyond me. But I've yet to find a place that doesn't have the product number in the title other than Logitech themselves.
