Does the cap lock key have a notification when it is on?

There is no light indicator on the keyboard itself. However, if you install the Logitech SetPoint software, which you should, when the Cap Lock is pressed it will show on scree (your monitor). Set Point is quite good software. No crashes so far.

What doe the extension cable connect to?

The extension cable is a female to male USB cable. It's there so you can either plug in your dongle directly into the tower or so you can plug it into the cable and which runs to the tower so that the dongle is closer to the keyboard and mouse for better reception.
