Yes it does pick up audio. And it is kind of amazing what it can pick up. I view this camera using one of the HDMI channels on my main Flat Screen TV (55 inch).  This Flat Screen TV is usually hooked up to a High Fidelity sound bar that has a separate remote subwoofer (camera is outdoors, soundbar system is indoors on other side of the same wall).  I did have problems at first as whenever I viewed the live picture from this camera, its microphone developed audio feed back from the sound bar that results in a loud low frequency hum.  My solution to this was to turn off the sound bar system, and play the audio from the camera's mike through the regular flat screen speakers  whenever we want to view this camera live and listen to it's audio. This works very well and the audio the camera microphone picks up is very clear. Of course there is no audio feedback when viewing this camera's video and audio playback.
