It will work with the 2.5" adapters Mediasonic offers but you have to buy them separately.

Will this work with USB 2.0? I have a Mac Pro (2009) model I'm running now, but plan to upgrade computers later this year.

Yes. All USB devices are backwards compatible. You won't like the transfer speeds at USB 2.0, but it will work.

Question 3

The description says that RAID can be configured in software, does this mean that it will present all 4 drives separately to the OS?  Also, what is the difference between this model and HF2-SU31C also listed for sale on Newegg?

Raid does not show up as 4 separate drives....it shows up as one drive spanning the size of the individual drives you choose.

For instance if you choose 4 1TB hard drives as RAID then you will effectively get 3 TB across the 4 hard drives that shows up as one drive to the OS.

If you want to know the difference between the two models, compare them on Newegg.

Which 2.5" Mounting Brackets are recommended for this Product?
It says it supports them, but then gives no indication as to which it prefers or has the best compatibility... and doesn't provide any.

It does support 2.5" drives but you need to buy the brackets, search for:   "Mediasonic SSD Mounting Bracket for 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch hard disk drive" (without quotes) and the bracket comes up.  Hope this helps.  Good Luck.

Does this support RAID?

This is just a container for the hard drives. You can use Windows Storage Spaces and provide a software raid, but this system will not provide that by default. You'd be looking for either a NAS or an enclosure that can provide the RAID controller for you.

Can the drives idle down or are the spun up 100% all the time?

They idle down. Same way in your case if not being accessed
