Are these real noise-canceling headphones (i.e.  generate a sound wave is which has the effect of cancelling the sound wave of the incoming noise) or are they just calling them noise-canceling because they act like ear plugs?

It does not mention "noise cancelling" anywhere in the product box, manual or even the official website. They only say Noise Isolating, so I believe that is what these are and its mentioned incorrectly here.

This might be silly questions.
I was reading about the Armature Technology is it because of this are they saying there is noise-cancellation, or is there a noise canceling component?
Does this Headphone always have the noise-canceling feature on? 
Do I have to have music playing for the noise-cancellation do be on?
