The display adapter has two plugs -- an HDMI plug and a USB plug.  The HDMI plug sticks out of a small plastic assembly, inside of which resides the wireless receiver.

The USB plug is only for powering the wireless receiver, so the USB jack that you plug it into has to be able to supply 5 volts.  You can check the documentation on your TV to be sure, but it's a good bet that the USB jack in the TV will supply 5 volts from its USB jack -- it's a universal thing.

Can I connect this device with my laptop to show power points a d website videos?

As long as your laptop is Intel Wi-Di compatible yes. You will be able to either duplicate your laptop screen which mirrors what is on your laptop screen. Or you can extend your display and use the TV as a second screen which is what I would do in this situation and so all you would need to do is drag the power point to the TV screen and start the slide show.
