no it doesn't have a caps lock light. but if you install the software for the keyboard it will show up on the computer screen

It does not have a caps lock light.  It doesn't seem to have any lights except fot a low-battery indicator.

Mouse: 2.28" x 4.47".  It is pretty much a standard wireless keyboard/mouse combo.

As to comparision I would say that one is as good as another the problem I found was the receiver sticks out enough that it got broken.  Microsoft doesn'
't  sell just that part so I had to get another keyboard, mouse combo.  I have replaced it with a Logitech which has a smaller receiver less likely to be broken.

Well, This keyboard has been purchase fro web developer and other software engineers. I have not get any complain after use.
Not sure about gaming.

I thought about that very thing and to answer your question.  The microsoft wireless mouse will only work with this particular RF system.  I have not had any problems with this system since I have purchase it several months ago.  I definitely would recommend this system.  It works great,  no worries about functionality.

I have this keyboard and mouse and it stopped responding.  What do I need to do?

The first thing I would check is the batteries and then verify that the receiver is attached to the USB port properly. If new batteries have been installed and the receiver is properly inserted into the USB port of the computer, verify that the receiver has been detected properly in the Device Manager (assuming you are using this on a Windows PC).

do both the mouse and keyboard run off of one usb receiver? or will i need two free usb ports to run both components?

One USB for both mouse/keyboard, not micro but smaller than some of the Microsoft receivers I've seen in the past

My major need in a keyboard is that the home keys (all 3) are easy to find by touch. I keep my keyboard under my desk and type totally from touch. How will this keyboard endure constant use of the home keys?  Do you have any suggestions for replacement keys for the home keys?

The F, the J and the number 5 on the numeric key pad have small ridges to help with identifying them. The split and angle of the keys also helps.  I haven't had any issues with wear and tear, and the keys seem to be standard and replaceable.

How well does this work with Linux?

I personally do not use Linux, however, if your using a mouse and key board wired and have an available USB port I see no reason for them to perform well.  This is of course if Linux will load drivers.  It works very well with windows.
