Question 1

When I boot and it posts the only thing it will boot from is the cd rom with the OS (Win 7 home 64bit) disk. It doesn't give any access to the BIOS. Even after doing a format of the harddrive and fresh install of Win 7. It only recognizes the cd rom, no bios at all.  No option to enter the BIOS to make changes to the boot order. Doesn't even recognize that there is a hd to boot from.  Suggestions?  (planning on putting in a fresh battery this Thursday)

reconnect /reseat  .your sata plugs sounds like one might not be plugged in firm enough  .
make sure your  small case  pin connectors on the side of the motherboard   like power light , hdd.reset etc  are in the right polarity  + -  etc some power supplys are backwords where the reset is revearsed with the  start button

Question 2

I got a new A.s.u.s MB,  it will not run XP, good MB just will not run XP, now I know you will think why run XP, well it is because I have software that will not run on Win7, and also not on XP mode on Win7,  so if I can not find a MB that will run XP, I will have to stick with my old slow XP machines, and I do not want to do that,  So will this MB run XP?

some of the newer MB's will not run XP, it is being fazed out, to run it you will have to back date the BIOS, and that is not going to happen. So that is why some MB's will not run XP

Question 3

I purchased this motherboard and installed it in a Cougar Spike mini gaming tower. The front face of that tower has (2) USB ports and (2) jacks with a cable to connect to the MB. Where does it connect to? I don't see a place for that connector on the MSI MB.
Also the MB has (2) slots for up to 2 sticks of PC-1600 memory. If I install (2) sticks of 4 GB PC-1600 in those slots will Windows 7 32 Bit system recognize and use this 8 GB of memory. I have heard others say that Windows 7 32 Bit systems only recognize up to a certain amount and I don't want to over buy memory that can't be utilized

Your description of the front panel is a little hard for me to visualize. Are the two cables connected to the USB ports? The six USB connectors on my motherboard are in one corner of the board, near the CMOS battery.

If the cables aren't for the USB ports, they may be Power, Reset, Drive status, etc. The connectors on the motherboard are near the USB connectors. Anything that doesn't have a connector on the motherboard, just roll up neatly and tape to the inside of the case.

As for memory I have a set of Kingston Technology ValueRAM 16 GB Kit of 2 (2x8 GB Modules) 1333MHz DDR3 PC3-10600 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM Motherboard Memory (KVR13N9K2/16) installed in my board. I haven't had any trouble with Win 2K Pro, Win XP Pro, Win 7 32 or 64 bit or Win 8 64 bit. They all see 16 MB of memory. If they can see it they can use it.

Can this MOBO house two GeForce GTX 760 GPUS?

It only has 1 PCI Express slot capable of running the graphics card. Will it work with 1 yes, 2 no way to install a 2nd one, and if you could get the PCI Express adapter board it would base on the chasis (case) your using.

the 760GM-p23 does not have integrated HDMI outputs, You would need to pick up a video card to accomplish this.

I have this board with a  AMD Athlon(tm) II X3 450 Processor (3 CPUs), ~3.2GHz installed. What cpu can I upgrade to in order to increase speed?

I am guessing you are using a 64 bit version of windows 7 or 8.1 to start with.
you can go to a AMD FX-6300 Vishera 3.5GHz (4.1GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 95W Six-Core Desktop Processor to start with.
Bring your system up to 16 gigs of ram.
a 7200 RPM hard drive, 64 meg cache SATA 6 GB transfer or a solid state drive.

The CPU can only do so much, if you have a bottle neck with ram or hard drive speed even going to an 8 core wont show the system true potential.
I hope this helps, I have built and sold hundreds of computers each based on the customers end requirements.

Yes it is, I installed windows 8 after I built my computer and it ran great.  I currently updated to 8.1 and its running good too.  I have no complaints and its fast.

Yes you can but the card will lose some performance because the motherboard has a PCI express 2.0 slot and the card is 3.0. I suggest you look for a newer motherboard that has a PCI express 3.0 slot for best performance.
