Question 1

I've read about the driver issues and the boot to black screen problems and it seems like this only affects people who are replacing their existing graphics card. What are the chances that I will also be affected by these problems if I am building a brand new system with the R9 390?

I had that issue. I was replacing Nivida cards in two different computers with this card which both suffered the issue. After running the Guru3D display driver uninstaller (just search for it, cannot link. should be the first link) I was perfect. Cards have been running great in both pcs since. I am able to max 1440p 60fps Witcher 3.

Nividia's "uninstallers" do a terrible job of removing the drivers and leave some stuff behind that interferes with the AMD cards.

As for a new computer I doubt you'll have any issues. Just be sure your case has good cooling since these cards can get hot without proper airflow.

Question 2

Is a 750W power supply sufficient for this card? This seems like a pretty thirsty card power consumption wise and that's a concern for me.

I don't know how much draw i have on my PSU now but i have 3 monitors, headset/mouse/keyboard/webcam

I don't know if you've received a reply yet, but the 3 monitors aren't drawing power from the PSU. The mouse, keyboard, and webcam draw a tiny amount.

What matters is what other things you have like do you have any other graphics cards, what CPU, fans, water cooling etc.

Anyways, you'll probably be fine with a 750W power supply unless you plan on buying three of these r9 390s and hooking them all up. I have a 620W power supply and I'm just fine.

If you're still not sure, go to pcpartpicker and enter the parts for your build and it'll tell you your wattage.

Question 3

what are your temperatures when running at full load??

Under full load (stock speeds)  in my fractal design define R5, I was peaking at around 80 c°. But when overclocked to 1175 mhz, the temperature plateaued at 85 c°.  Keep in mind that the maximum threshold for this card is 95 c°. But if I were you, I would honestly just go with the sapphire r9 390 nitro tri-x. It has one more fan than this msi version does, and it will make a large difference cooling this monster of a GPU.

Question 4

I read a review saying this card will not work with windows 10. Can someone verify this? It seems pretty unlikely.

This card works in windows 10,  I have no idea if driver install is still a problem. It used to be that windows would automatically detect the 300 series as 200 and thus continually black screen on boot up if it installs the 200 series which is an absolute pain to stop from happening. If you want to make things easy, uninstall  everything catalyst unplug ur ethernet or turn off ur NIC, swap gpu's, boot up, install the drivers from the disk plug in ethernet or turn on  NIC catalyst will either prompt to update or you can do so manually and you will be fine. The drivers on the disk are not fantastic by any means but it bypasses the problem where even  if u download compatible catalyst drivers and install them pre gpu install, windows can still register the card as 200 series.

Question 5

Is there coil whine on this model???  Coil whine is plaguing the newer cards these days.

I'm not exactly sure what coil whine is, but the only sound I hear from my rig is a very low sound from the multiple fans in my case, which I consider very quiet compared to my previous rig.

Hi will this GPU work on a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 ATX AMD Socket AM3+ 990FX 4xDDR3 Motherboard its PCI-Express 2.0 and this GPU is 3.0 ?

Yes this card should also work on a PCIE 2.0 x16 lane, just keep in mind that PCIE 2.0 should have about half the bandwidth of 3.0, but for most cases it should not impact performance.

Will this board only work with AMD motherboards, sorry I am new to custom PCs?

No, it should work with any motherboard with PCIEx16 (provided your case is big enough and you have the free slots, as it takes up 2.5 slots)

Is this card compatible with an intel i-5 quad core?

This graphics card should work with it, so long as the motherboard has a slot and the power supply has the cables for it, which would be either 1 with 6 and 1 with 8, or 2 with 6 since the GPU ships with a 6-8 power converter

will a 216 watt power supply run this graphics card if I don't overclock it?

Unfortunately, no it will not. You can run it on a 500w PSU if you don't overclock but past that you won't have enough power for your card and system.

If I were to use two of these on one board would the minimum Watt still be 750?

No,Gpu wattage scaled additively. If you are going to run 2 of these which IMHO opinion is a bad and inefficient idea(I would just go for the Radeon Fury X) you will need a larger PSU I would Recommend a Corsair AX860 or AX860i.
