Radioactive "Edition" - not Radioactive line by Mushkin 3/25/2018 8:57:58 AM

Pros: Just purchased and installed this pair of memory modules. Both appear to be fully functional and working great. Purchased to replace my Micron memory, of which one module was dead.

Cons: I wanted to write this review soon after trying out the memory because the "con" of this review is that this product - at least for me - is not what it is advertised to be. I thought I was buying a pair of Radioactive line of memory by Mushkin (since in Newegg's product decription, it is called "Mushkin Enhanced Radioactive 8GB..."). Mushkin advertises on their website the Radioactive line as being just below their top Redline series. When I received the product, I quickly noticed that it was labeled Blackline on the front and back of the product insert, as well as on the stickers on the modules themselves. This item is not of the Radioactive line, but rather it is Blackline memory with the Radioactive design Frostbite heat sinks; a "Radioactive Edition" of the Blackine memory.

Overall Review: Also, I would like to note that at the time of my writing this review, in the most recent published review, written by Christopher B, he states that the product is made in USA. The item I purchased clearly states on the barcode sticker on the back of the packaging, "Made in Mexico". Not a huge deal for me, but wanted others to know that it does not appear this item is made in USA.

DOA. Submit RMA twice to Mushkin support website since April/2016 (4/11/2016 and 4/23/2016). Still no response from Mushkin since. 9/5/2016 12:03:37 AM

Pros: - Couldn't tell as the 2 memory sticks just never work.

Cons: Mushkin used to manufacture and sell high-end and fairly expensive DDR/DDR2 memories. And it worked great. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. Stay away from Mushkin now.

Overall Review: I had positive experiences with black-line Mushkin memory in the past (DDR/DDR2) and had high hope this time. This is the last time I'll buy from Mushkin.
Other manufacturers (G'Skill, Patriot) also have produced bad memory sticks, but they responded quickly when you created RMA thru their website. A week later, I've got the RMA# and within 5 weeks, I've got the memory sticks replaced. I don't understand why Mushkin chooses to ignore customers who bought their bad products when RMA was submitted.

Good, Fast, Good value Product 7/19/2016 10:15:10 PM

Pros: - Looks Kool
- Good Capacity
- Good Price
- Good Speed

Cons: -None So Far

Overall Review: Had 8 GB of Corsair LP memory before. Didn't hold well to the test of time as 8 Gigs wasn't sufficient without having the system lag like crazy. After Installing these, loading games, Alt-Tab-ing and having lots of windows open was a breeze without having to deal with major lag. For me it was a very well worth purchase to give a large amount of RAM to my system.

1/2 sticks went bad, 'good' one seems to be underperforming 7/19/2016 9:54:41 AM

Pros: Worked like a champ for over three years. Heat spreaders are low profile and not overly flashy or annoying. Mushkin honors their warranty. Sent me back a newer, more capable stick.

Cons: Noticed some slippage on the heat spreader when trying to secure the stick in the ram slot.
Does not seem to overclock well - see other.
Not running at rated speed of 1600MHz (seems to run at 1333 instead?)

Overall Review: I had two of these sticks, one I bought with my motherboard, and one I bought later. One of the two sticks eventually failed catastrophically. No problem. They honored the warranty. I sent the stick in, they sent a new one back. Now here's the issue:

I purchased a new motherboard (Asrock Fatal1ty Killer+) and it has a more detailed UEFI BIOS as opposed to my last board. When I set the BIOS to 'auto' detect ram speed and timing, it uses 1333MHz with both DIMMs installed. This is odd, I think.

Checking in the BIOS, the newer stick Mushkin sent as a warranty replacement shows 3 different speeds(800, 1066, 1333) and an XMP (no AMP though) @ 1600MHz. The older stick (I believe it to be this stick) does not show an XMP (or an AMP) and I believe shows the same speeds up to 1333MHz.

I tried adjust my base clock to get this up a little... somewhere between 1333 and 1600... fails to boot. I know my cpu multiplier and NB multiplier are fine, as it is stable until I choose a memory speed. So I'm thinking that even when I choose 1600MHz in the BIOS, it's downclocking to 1333 to match this other stick.

Overall, I'm just confused as to why this doesn't show 1600MHz, an XMP, and why BIOS autodetects as 1333. I'm using an AMD Athlon X4 880k processor.

Gets the job done 7/13/2016 11:45:29 AM

Pros: At the time of purchase, this was the most cost-effective RAM for a home media server I was building. I actually bought two of these kits for a total of 32GB to put into a Hyper-V server running multiple VMs. The system has been up and running without a hitch ever since I set it up in February 2015, so the RAM is definitely reliable.

Cons: It's not particularly fast or flashy, but I wasn't buying it for gaming, so that's fine.

Overall Review: It's good, reliable, cheap RAM. If you're looking for the best speeds or something to make your gaming rig scream, you'll probably want something newer and faster. But at the time I bought this, the price-per-GB was unparalleled.

Mushkin Memory is a Great Product, BUT Newegg Stockpicking FAIL! 5/8/2016 2:02:26 PM

Pros: I have never had a Mushkin product fail on me ... ever. It's Made in the USA, and the memory performs as advertised. I used this DDR3 memory to upgrade an existing PC to 16 Gb of SDRAM.

Cons: I ordered Mushkin memory with the "radioactive" heatsink; I received the "Blackline Frostbite" edition instead. Whomever the Newegg stock-picker was who fulfilled this order ... FAIL. Better attention to detail was needed here.

Overall Review: This review would have received five eggs, had I received the correct product. I'm not sending back the Mushkin sticks I received, since the return postage isn't worth it, and the received sticks worked perfectly for the upgrade.

One dead stick after a year. 4/5/2016 1:04:29 PM

Pros: The price is cheap.

Cons: I got a BSoD a few months ago. I didn't find any problems and it wasn't a big deal.
Then I got two more BSoD over the last few weeks and after the second BSoD, one of the memory sticks had stopped working.
I did not overclock. In fact, I ran them lower than 1600.

Overall Review: A stick failing after only a year with no overclocking is not good. My old Corsair memory from 2008 still works fine.
