does this need a phantom power ?

It depends on whether your sound card is adequate enough. Neewer says that you will need phantom power if you plan to use it with a laptop. If you are using it with a desktop you MAY not need one. I was able to run it just fine through my ASUS Strix Soar sound card. I later added phantom power but didn't notice much of an improvement. I suggest you try this mic with your current setup first. If you notice the microphone is too quiet or there is a lot of static, then you should consider purchasing a phantom power supply.

Question 2

I am having issues setting it up, see, I use a laptop, so I don't necessarily have a microphone port on my computer, just a headphone port, and when I plug it in there, it doesn't work, when usually mics I plug into there do work, would I by any chance need to purchase a headphone/microphone splitter to solve this issue or get phantom power?

It needs to be powered. It'll work okay for a desktop pc,  because it can draw enough power to work, but connecting it to a laptop needs a phantom power, or other power supply system. Just plugging it in or using a splitter won't work.

Why does this microphone have such poor audio even when plugged into a 48v power supply?

Poor sound quality may have to do with a faulty cable, too much noise or EMI around your sound card, or maybe you really do have a bad microphone. Only through trial and error can you discover the source of this problem.

If you were expecting REAL professional/studio quality from this product, I suggest you return it and get something a lot more expensive. The NW-700 is really just a budget consumer mic.

Does this work with all the laptop(include MacBook)?

It should work as long as the laptop has a free 3.5 mm mic port. As far as it working for MacBook's, I'm not sure. Though most hardware devices are cross platform. It doesn't have any drivers that need to be installed, so it should work fine. Also the mic itself is on the quiet side, my friends made me aware of this when I was using this as my main mic. For them to hear me I needed to have the mic within 2-3 inches of my mouth, not the best but decent as a starter mic.

need to buy the cable seperately, the one I bought didn't have any option to change the cable, and I had to order one.

Yes but you would also need to purchase a phantom power supply. Even though it comes with a 3.5mm adapter cable, standard 3.5 mm microphone inputs lack the power to get good/usable sound levels out of this mic. With the power supply the sound quality is great for the pice point.
