Home Office (this is a closet switch only) 11/28/2017 9:34:28 AM

Pros: Plenty of ports

Cons: Fan noise ; only 100 mb speeds

Overall Review: Does not have gigabyte speed except for 2 ports. Overall for netgear product at this price was disappointing. Returned and went for Cisco 250. Thanks for Eggs Excellence in refunding. I am a dedicated New Egg customer.

Just Works 12/4/2014 12:51:50 PM

Pros: Lots of POE ports with a good watt budget. Quiet (we only have 10 POE cameras plugged in, may get louder with more devices, don't know)

Cons: None that I could find

Overall Review: Swapped out our existing Netgear 8 port POE switch for this one as we intend to add more cameras and the other one was maxed out. Just plugged this in and was done. Yeah I know it's managed but I don't need that in this case as it's for a dedicated bunch of cameras.

RUN! 7/16/2014 2:23:39 PM

Pros: Rackmountable?

These feel like solidly made switches...

Cons: no ssh access - but I knew that part going in - what frustrates me is that the switch reboots without warning for every little change you make - even text fields which don't have any effect on any switch-port configuration.

Ping times to these units also seem to jump all over the place for no reason - my cisco 3750s/3750Gs all ping with <1 response time from anywhere on the network

Overall Review: These were rebooting for every single little change. For example, I entered "information services" in the switch info for the contact person. Applying rebooted the switch without it telling me "switch rebooting". This got me into changing the next thing without knowing the switch was rebooting, and losing my next changes because the switch was powering back up.

Configuring VLAN tagging - forget it. You have to do each port individually with no way to do them all and applying - leaving the page loses unapplied changes, applying reboots the switch (these take about 30-40 seconds to boot).

I thought I would fix this with the latest firmware update. Updating firmware caused a bricked switch. For the second switch, I called netgear teach support to update the firmware - with the same result. Going to try to send these back and talk administration into spending the $ for used Ciscos.

works fine for small business 7/14/2014 4:46:22 PM

Pros: Small business can utilize this to run phones along with data. Combo ports are good for linking buildings/switches together. Rackmount ready. Gigabit ports for the big stuff!

Cons: needed a firmware update upon arrival to do what I wanted - minus egg.

Overall Review: I have used these to hook via fiber (combo port by generic manuf.) from building to building. I have used them to power 12 NEC ip phones...check how much draw your phones are so as not to hook up too many. They sit in a closet so noise is not applicable. (knock on wood) They just run!

Does what it's supposed to 5/1/2014 10:11:14 PM

Pros: Does what it's supposed to do. 24 ports of POE 802.11af. I use these for POE cameras and I have had no problems. The management and monitoring software is nice

Cons: None, it just seems to do it's job

Patience <3 Geeks 9/19/2012 8:42:42 AM

Pros: This switch works great for the price; remember that, you get what you pay for. Configuration is easy, after you get the web interface is up. Able to power 16 IP cameras plus 6 VOIP phones. LIFETIME WARRANTY!

Cons: Web interface takes a little effort to get up (follow packaged instructions + reboot). See "other thoughts".

Overall Review: I've found that Firefox V15 seemed the most stable with the web interface. At first, just power up and let it boot. Then plug in your PC on the same subnet. The switch will have a default IP of 192.168.0.238 (double check, I forgot. It's in the instructions). Then type in "admin" and "password" as user and pass. Finally configure IP address and save. If you can't connect to the new address after a minute, power the switch down and power up. Let it boot up and it should work. Now you can make any other changes to the switch.

I've configured 3 of these so far at different locations. This is the best way I found it to work. If someone has a better way, please let us know!

Awesome 7/24/2012 12:52:29 PM

Pros: Inexpensive awesome PoE

Cons: None so far

Overall Review: this thing is great. 30 ports, 24 of 'em PoE and at a fraction of the cost. It's incredibly stable.

A lot of people gripe about the web interface, but who the hell uses a managed mode for a switch for PoE devices? Most of the time it'll be for security cameras or powered WiFi access points anyway.

This thing is seriously freaking great.

Steaming Pile of Chips 5/3/2012 10:39:30 AM

Pros: - Low cost PoE solution for a VoIP network
- Gigabit uplinks
- Lifetime hardware warranty
- Blue is my favorite color

Cons: - Firmware update process on my v1 of this went badly - even if proper process followed, it is risky (just search online...I'm not the only one)
- No serial port
- No firmware recovery procedure
- Web interface only allowed for 2 connections from the browser, whereas my browser by default tried somewhere north of 10. What this does is cause the interface to not load completely. Known issue and easy enough to fix in the browser itself. This is more or less an annoyance, but just shows a lack of attention to detail.

Overall Review: I have other Netgear stuff that I like very much. I'm not super fond of the web interface being the only option and loathe that there is no serial port for recovery of the device. This device really only has PoE and the uplinks going for it in my opinion. Beyond that, it is horrible. I'd suggest to someone not getting this specifically for only VoIP traffic to look elsewhere, such as one of their switches with all gig ports for not that much more.
