Certainly no reason not to be. A switch is primarily just a way to add more Ethernet ports, behind your router, wireless expander/ repeater, or media bridge. There's no interaction with whatever OS is used on any of the connected computing devices.

Question 2

What are the physical dimensions of the switch? I need to fit it into a confined space  inside a box that contains security wiring as well as cable boxes et.

4" x 5 1/2" x 1". Putting this in an enclosed environment is not smart because of the 'heat'. Also the power adapter is a transformer and the plug into this unit sticks out another 1+ inch. Not ALL the ports support a gigabyte.

Thanks to those who have answered my previous question.

Does this have a  dsl port?    Is it also wired, not wireless?

Do any cables come with it?  If not what do I need.  My printer does have an ethernet port.

Sorry, no DSL port (unless you mean Ethernet port), that's only on modems.  This is a wired switch, meaning it does not have wireless capabilities.  It comes with 1 cat5 cable (Ethernet cord) that you plug into one if the 5 Ethernet ports in back labeled signal in or from router or modem, and connect the other end to your router/modem.
     You then use another cable to hook up a device, like your printer using one of the 4 open Ethernet ports left.  You will need to supply 1 extra cable for each device you want to hook up ( like 1 for printer) since the one that comes with it will be hooked up to your router or modem to receive the internet signal.. 
     Basically all it does is take one internet signal from your modem or router and splits it up into 4 signals.  This means it only takes one Ethernet port in your outer or modem to add 4 new devices.  They can also be used as wired extenders or boosters, making your network larger by using multiple ones

Question 4

I need a router/modem combination to connect my printer to the ethernet in order for it to work with my Mac computer.
This one lookes from the picture like it has 5 ports.  Is this what I need?  Earthlink sent me one with only one port and the printer will not work with it.  
If this one does not work, can I return it to you?

This is NOT a Router/Modem.  You probably need a DSL modem/router, but it is best to check with your internet provider before purchasing it.  AT&T U-Verse does NOT use DSL.  There are several different ones available from Newegg.  NOTE: If your internet provider has supplied you with a router that has Ethernet output, you can use the Netgear GS605AV Switch to connect four devices to it.
