does this work in a local area network without internet access?
I can set up the camera in an environment with internet, but it will be deployed at a cabin that does not have internet access

You can put the camera anywhere, but Yes, you do have to have Internet, to view. Its for Check in only, and not constant surveillance. You can also download an app, to view from your phone, if you don't have I internet, at the cabin....but if it is in a remote place, Good Luck with a signal. It would be perfect for watching over a cabin, when you are not there. Its an IP camera, and need to plug into your internet router, or wired to your modem. Hope this helps! I Love mine, and Vuezone has a free monitoring program, but the Pay version (Only about $5 a month), you can also record, and take pictures, and The Motion detection is sensitive. Also, I purchased the Mount, and weatherproof case. It does work below zero temps also, unlike they say. (Oh, for daylight only. No Night vision...with this model, but they do offer night vision.

How long can the battery last if it's in use 24/7?

This Camera is not intended for 24/7 .The Camera's Battery will last about 1 week. Suggest getting a Wired system, but I love my Netgear Vuezone. I tried, and used constantly when I first purchased it, but now, just check in...with it. Great system, and low monitoring price. Cant go wrong, for the price, and can move them from place to place! The Battery will last months, if used like it was designed! Hope this helps!

Does the camera show color image or black/white image?

Camera shows color image.

Please note - modern cameras usually shows b/w image only in low (no) light mode if they are equipped with IR light source (LED). This camera isn't. Since it's battery powered, it requires quite bright source of light.

Question 4

I'm thinking to put this in my baby's room, would this camera work at night as well? By work, I mean 1. is the picture quality good enough to see the baby? (doesn't need to see the detail, but at least to see if the baby is moving or moved from one place to another) and 2. does the motion sensor work in a dark room? The room is not completely dark, it has street light coming from the outside, but the light source is still pretty weak. Thanks!

It will not work in the dark. I use mine with the optional infrared (IR) lamp that needs electric (an outlet). My Foscam is better in dark or low lit rooms.
