Yes! The 18-140mm lens comes with VR which comes in handy when taking those telephotos. It's an excellent camera and a total bargain for the price/performance. I've had this camera for a few months now and I'm 100% satisfied.

I'm planning on getting my mom a camera and I was wondering if this camera has good HD pics and can upload photos wirelessly? and if it is a good quality camera? Thanks everyone for your help!

Quality of this camera is good. You can't go wrong with this if you are just starting learning photography (Most of us are just starters. I purchased this 1.5 years back and I still feel I am not using this to it's full potential). 
Coming to uploading photos wirelessly, I don't think this camera has that option. But this camera can be connected wirelessly to your cell phone or tablet or laptop and pics can be downloaded to that device and from there you can do what ever you want (Remember enabling this feature will drain the battery fast but if you are not taking hundreds of pics at a time then it is ok).

Only if you purchase an adapter, to enable you to mount your lens on the Nikon. It then becomes a manual lens, i.e. no autofocus.

What compatibility does this have with lenses from earlier Nikon 35 mm Cameras?

Previous lenses such as those used on the F, F1, F2, Nikkormat EL bodies etc. will mechanically fit the 5200 bayonet mount but are not recommended by Nikon.  These remain manual focus and apertures will not couple with the body for operation in auto mode.  Also, since designed for film plane dimensions of 24x36mm., they will function 'effectively' as having longer focal lengths since the image area in the 5200 body is commensurately smaller.  That said, optically they will work but you'll have to manually set both aperture and shutter speed (M mode) to get a proper exposure - just like in the old days.  Unless you have a very specific circumstance with fixed or controllable conditions, using older lenses might prove more difficult than they're worth.
