what's the front face like - is it really smooth/glossy? or is it more matte/textured? i need one with a textured face to match the front of my case.

It is matte. Definitely not glossy. There isn't any reflection off it like my case. I have a black Antec 300 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129066 ) and the plastic sides of the front panel reflect papers on the floor. The plastic bracket doesn't reflect anything. However, it feels fairly smooth. At the same time, I have an LG DVD-R/RW and it is also matte, but it has a slight texture unlike the bracket.
