Does it have an ethernet port? Wireless is good, but not always reliable in my home. I usually prefer using an Ethernet cable.

Yes has Ethernet port and wireless.

Great receiver! Some advice though, do a firmware update via USB first thing out of the box and everything works great. Issues with wireless and Ethernet before firmware update.

Question 2

This is the second Onkyo Receiver that I have purchased and there is no microphone for the Audyssey.  Is it supposed to come with it or is it a separate purchase?

Is this a surround sound system? I have a ten year old 5-1 system that works of 11w per channel but i want to add 2 more (central)  speakers

This is a 7.1 surround receiver, meaning it will accommodate 3 front speakers (left, center and right), 2 surround (left and right side) plus 2 more left and right (either front high or rear surround), plus 1 subwoofer (point 1) = 7.1.  Or, it can do 5.1 with option for stereo out to zone 2 (such as another room for music).  I wouldn't advise using a second zone in the same room - if you want to add more speakers putting them high and wide in the front would be my suggestion.

Hi, the description stated it supports sound/music streaming. Does it support video streaming? What protocols does it support, Miracast, AirPlay, Chromecast, etc?

It does not seem to. I've been using mine a couple weeks. It does music streaming from internet radio (Pandora, Sirius XM, Last.fm, Slacker, Tunein, Spotify, Aupeo!). It also will play music from a Home Media server (Windows Media) or from a DLNA server. I have a Synology DiskStation server in my home network for video and music storage and it works great for music using the WiFi connection. It also pairs easily with a Bluetooth device like a phone to play music.

Question 5

I noticed there was a connection for a subwoofer pre-out, but I am not seeing a connection for a normal non powered subwoofer.  Is there a place for me to plug in my non-powered subwoofer?

A powered sub woofer is highly recommended. From the User Guide:
• If your subwoofer is unpowered and you’re using an
external amplifier, connect the subwoofer pre out jack to an
input on the amplifier.
In other words..the pre-outs will drive an unpowered sub woofer.

Can you set it up for 5.1 surround?

You can set it up for a 5.1 speaker system; you just won't have anything plugged into the 2 extra jacks for the additional surround speakers. This won't affect the performance of the unit either.

Question 7

I have been told that this model has HDMI input problems.
Years ago I had a Onkyo receiver, but this was before HDMI?
I just don't want to throw out my money.
Please let me know the current reliability and any issues with the HGMI inputs.

I also had an older Onkyo receiver (TX-SR606) that did develop HDMI problems.  I have only had the new receiver a couple of weeks and so far have experienced no issues.  Not to say, however, that I am not apprehensive.

The Onkyo Product Page says the 8 ohm power is 95 watts RMS. Newegg's retail page says 85.

What is the rated power per channel at 8 ohm loads?

Minimum Continuous power 8 ohm loads 95 watts 2 channel, 20- 20,000hz. Maximum 120...6 ohm loads 115 watts minimum, @ 1khz with .7% THD
This assumes no subwoofer in the system. ( 20-20,000 ) With the sub, which crosses over at a choice of frequency, say 100 hz, which is selctable...with no sub the entire range of hearing goes to the satellites. So with a sub in the system, 85 watts is a decent guess. This info comes from the on-disk manual link to a .pdf with the specs in the appendix. The amplifier's WRAT provides a frequency response range from 5 hz to 100,000 hz, which is why I buy Onkyo. The cleanliness of the amplifier section is decent. A decent source audio, and decent speakers make a decent system. The speakers should have the 'headroom' meaning they should have power handling in the 150 watt scale.  Good sources for audio content are hard to find. Only audio digitally encoded with surround will produce the surround sound. Analogue and 2 channel digital falls back on synthesis for the surround speakers. Back in the day...also refered to as SAD or serial analogue delay. Dolby managed a system and Onkyo also pioneered surround systems. THX is a standard developed for surround sound which is just basic 'quality' scale. THX is a way for manufacturer's to justify higher pricing. The measure of improvement is about 1 to 5 percent. Hope I'm not giving too much info...just thought you'd like to know. 7 85 watt speakers and a sub running at full signal are LOUD. Your neighbor will appreciate that...LOL

No it is not pass through it is switched but each hdmi port can be selected for pass through...Very nice receiver have had it for about a week and love the sound. The Wifi and bluetooth both work great..

Chris    I would like to know what the difference is between this model and the tx-nr616?

Everything is the same just a different model number and a higher price on the TX-NR616..
