Are the speakers wireless?

No, but it's a great system. I purchased the RocketFish Universal Wireless Kit for the rear channels. The biggest issue I've had with this system is that it's remote is not universal, meaning you can't program it to use for your TV, Cable Box, etc. You have to use it's remote with your others. Other than that - great system for the price.

Does the receiver have lip-sync technology?

I believe it does because I have played regular dvds and have not had a lip-sync issue. only once watching Netflix did it not sync. Of course I have an Audio return from the TV to the receiver.

17" Wide, 6" tall, 12" deep.  You will want to account for at least 2" more inches deep, for plugs.

Will this work with a powered subwoofer (i.e. another brand)?

Yes I have a Yamaha powered sub hooked up to mine and it works great you just have to adjust all the setting so that sub doesn't drown out all of your other speakers.

Which of these two although different types of set-up will give me the better sound quality?? Thanks in advanced.

Onkyo HT-S3500 vs Vizio S4251w-B4

Vizio is a nice sound bar.  Simple and clean install.

Onkyo is more of a sound system.  Plug your multiple devices HDMI and other cables into it, then output to the stereo.   I run:

Xbox 360 (hdmi)
Xbox One (hdmi)
Blu-Ray 3d player (hdmi)
Cable-box (hdmi)

All into the Onkyo, then one HDMI out to the TV.  I use the sound from the Onkyo.

I'm no sound expert, but I bet the Onkyo blows away any soundbar.

Question 6

My TV has limited HDMI ports, but I have multiple devices installed.  Would this, or any other type of receiver, allow me to change device without having to constantly plug in a new device?  Will it allow me to hit an input button much like my television to switch video and audio to the new device?  I know they often function this way for audio, but video and audio would be a huge selling point for me.

this unit has 4 hdmi units and 1 out that goes to your TV. On the remote for the Onkyo you choose which device you want to view.  As long as you have all your devices run hdmi to the receiver you will be able to watch and hear your device.  I have cable box, computer, Xbox360, and Chromecast hooked up

can I remove the volume control images from the television screen?

Yes there is a setting in the menu that OSD turn that off and it won't show up on the screen.

Does this play cd's and dvd's?

It wont play it because it doesnt have a cd or dvd player built in but it will play the audio thru the system from hdmi, analog inputs , fiber optics from the device.

What are the dimensions of the speakers?

The speakers are small; only about 4 or 5 inches square.  This system is better for a small bedroom, about 10 ft. by 12ft maximum.  I have it in a large living room and probably will move it to my bedroom and move a more powerful system into the living room.
