I would be using this with a Centos 7.0 linux system.  Does the raid function by itself on this unit or would  I need to use mdadm to set up a software raid?

I use this on a Win7 system. It comes with software for setup of the various RAID configurations. Because of your question, I went back and looked at the software in my download files. I saw there is control software for Linux in three flavors: Fedora, Red Hat 64, and Ubuntu. Hope this helps.

Specs say 6TB per bay, title of listing says 8TB per bay.  Can someone confirm which is accurate?

I can't answer your question as I used 6tb in mine but I would recommend spending the extra money and getting a raid enclosure that has rebuild functionality. I had a drive go bad and I lost 16tb of data because this enclosure can't rebuild after you lose a drive

Does this model have auto rebuild function?

I couldn't say; I use it as JBOD running ZFS.  I WILL say, however, that it has been pretty reliable.  My original unit failed, but NE was very quick to replace.  This one has been solid.

Does this unit support spanning multiple, different sized drives so that they appear as a single drive to Windows?
