John "Mike" Thomas Wolf was credited with shooting down at least seven enemy aircraft during World War II. The flying ace a designation only given to those pilots who've successfully shot down five or more aircraft in combat was a part of the VF-2 squadron flying the Grumman F6F Hellcat aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hornet. On top of having shot down seven Japanese planes, he's also credited with two other "probables, " the Navy says.
