It's a dual high-performance fisheye lens that can combine imagery and stitch them together onto a single file. Therefore, you get a simplified workflow as you don't need to sync and stitch separate captures. A simple lens swap can help you toggle among traditional stills, video shooting, and stereoscopic 3D captures. When paired with EOS R5 you get high-resolution videos, for example, DCI 8K at 30fps and DCI 4K at 60 fps.

VR Lens:
With this lens, you can create immersive 3D captures that when viewed on Oculus Quest 2 and other compatible head mount displays, the viewer can get a Virtual Reality-like experience of being actually present at the scene of capture. This effect is thanks to the stereoscopic 3D 180° VR functionality that creates an imaginary depth, making the captures live. If you want to know the technology behind it, it lies in the lens's optimized folded optical design comprising individual left and right optical systems. With this design, only one sensor is sufficient to create the stereoscopic 3D imagery and offer a 180° field of view.

The lens has a hidden potential that can be unleashed with Canon's upcoming firmware update. Canon's updated firmware and subscription software, such as Canon's EOS VR Utility or EOS VR plug-in will become the must-have weapons in every creator's arsenal, once developed. These will offer a convenient and flexible combination for the preparation and sharing of your creations. Looking deeply into the optical design, the lens comes with 12 elements in 10 groups including two ultra-low dispersion glass elements and prisms in both the left and right lenses. These are instrumental in delivering impressive color and clarity and minimal chromatic aberration. On top of that, the Subwavelength Structure Coating (SSC) reduces ghosting and reflections in difficult lighting conditions.









Even with all the technological enhancement, the manufacturer has kept some things very simple, such as the manual focus ring. The manual focus is coordinated among both lenses, so you don't have to adjust each individually. Further, you get separate focus adjustment dials lets using the supplied hexagon wrench.

Its bright f/ 2.8 aperture is perfect for low light shooting and the lightweight, folded design, close to 2" depth, and less than 1 pound weight make it perfectly portable. The lens is dust and water-resistant to withstand challenging weather and the additional Fluorine coating on the front element prevents water, oil, and fingerprints on the surface.
