The range extends to 50mm, offering a normal-length field of view, that suits portraits and tighter perspective of everyday subjects. Also, it has impressive close-up performance, with a 7.5" minimum focusing distance at the wide end and 11.8" on the long end, for working with nearby subjects. This flexible range is backed by a constant f/4 maximum aperture that helps prioritize portability and make this an ideal walkaround lens.

The lens design is also well-suited to multimedia use with the inclusion of a VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor for quick and quiet autofocus performance.
