Leica DG Vario-Elmar 100-400mm f/4- 6.3 II ASPH. POWER O. I. S. Lens
Expanding on the achievements of its forerunner, this version of the extensive zoom Micro Four Thirds Leica DG Vario-Elmar 100-400mm f/4- 6.3 II ASPH. POWER O. I. S. Lens by Panasonic possesses the capability to broaden the zoom range when utilized with the optional 1.4 x and 2x teleconverters, all while reducing its length by more than a centimeter for a more condensed design. The lens now provides macro functionalities, boasting a full-frame equivalent magnification of. 5x, expandable to 1x with the optional 2x teleconverter. Maintaining its Leica branding, the optical design utilizes aspherical and extra-low dispersion elements to markedly diminish chromatic and spherical aberrations across the zoom spectrum, ensuring a high level of image clarity and sharpness.
The inclusion of the POWER O. I. S. system enhances image sharpness, reducing the impact of camera shake during extended focal length shooting and harmonizing with Lumix G cameras' Dual I. S. function.
Enhancements in operability include the incorporation of a zoom limit switch on the lens body, refining the focus limiter function. The lens features a seamless construction that makes it resistant to dust and moisture, with an additional level of freeze resistance, enhancing its readiness for diverse field conditions. Despite its lightweight and compact structure for handheld use, the 100-400mm f/4- 6.3 also comes equipped with a detachable rotating tripod collar for swift transitions between horizontal and vertical shooting orientations when utilizing a monopod or tripod.
Tailored for Micro Four Thirds system cameras, this telephoto zoom lens offers a focal length equivalent to 200-800mm in full-frame terms. The optional 1.4 x and 2x teleconverters extend the 35mm equivalent focal length to 1120mm and 1600mm, respectively. With a minimum focusing distance of 4.3 ', complemented by a 35mm equivalent maximum magnification of 0.5 x, the lens supports close-up photography. This magnification level can be expanded to 1x when employing the optional 2x teleconverter.
Crafted in collaboration with Leica, the lens adheres to stringent quality standards, featuring an optimally arranged structure with one aspherical lens, two extra-low dispersion lenses, and one ultra extra-low dispersion lens. This configuration ensures clarity, sharpness, and color accuracy throughout the zoom range and across all edges of the photograph.
The POWER O. I. S. mechanism effectively mitigates camera shake for sharper handheld shots, compatible with the Dual I. S. function in select Lumix G cameras. The on-body Zoom Limit Switch facilitates quick adjustment of the zooming range, improving autofocus performance and preventing over- and under-magnification.
With newfound freeze resistance, the lens body exhibits resilience in outdoor and challenging environments, reinforced by its seamless, dust- and moisture-resistant construction. The nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality, particularly when employing selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques. The quick-shift, two-part rotating tripod collar enables rapid transitions between horizontal and vertical shooting orientations, maintaining consistent control placement for more intuitive handling.
