If I only have an iPad, and no computer, will I be able to use this effectively?  It can be a hassle at times not having a computer and only the iPad.  I have 4G but no wifi at home.  This can be a hassle for updates and large apps.  Just curious about this.

Yes you can. I would say I use it with my phone the most and not a computer.  It will update throughout the day letting you know your activity levels by a bar scale.  It still tracks steps if you do not update constantly but will not give you time bar scales.  Each light also indicates 20% towards your goal for the day without even needing another device to let you know.

Does this calculate steps/minutes walked into weight watcher's activity points?

I do not believe so. I haven't looked into WW integration with it. I would recommend the charge hr over this as it has a better clapping mechanism.

Are there various sizes?

Yes, the Fitbit Flex comes with a small band and large band in the box.  This only applies to the Flex.

Water resistant - does that mean waterproof? Can it be worn while swimming?

Yes, You can wear these while swimming.  I Wore mine all summer while I swam. I also take it to the shower and ever where else I go.
