Yes, security camera system can work without network, plug and play for local view through a monitor/TV. But if you need remote through a smart phone device, you need plug Ethernet cable.
Does the nvr come with a pre-installed hard drive? If not, What size should I buy?
NO, it does NOT included hard drive. The NVR supports 3.5" Seagate/WD 6TB security hard drive, pls note if the hard drive is 3-6TB, it may need change an adapter for the NVR( 12V 3A or 5A),12v 2A adapter may be underpowered to drive the bigger HDD.
