Does this work through wifi? Or does it have to be connected directly to a modem/router? Also, does it work with windows?

To get the wifi working you have to wire it in to your router. It will work with any operating system, it has a built in web server you can access using any browser. Just point your browser to the IP address assigned to the camera by your router. It is a really easy setup. Instructions that come with it are good.
If you want to use the smartphone apps, the camera requires an internet connection. I feel like once you connect it to the internet you never really know who is watching. They say it's P2P but there is always a central location the stream goes through... that is not peer-to-peer in my oppinion.

Do you know if there is an Android app or apple app that works with this Camera?

Only tried the app for android and it only works if the camera is connected to the internet. Not a big fan of letting the internet know whats going on in my house every minute of every day.

What are the power requirements?

There's a small adapter to convert 110v wall current to 5v DC that comes with it. So being near an outlet is essential.

How many feet does it can see?

We have this cam pointed across the room and down a short hallway to Keep an eye on our puppy dog during the day.  This is about a 25' distance and the image is outstanding as long as we remember to turn the light on in the hall.  Keep in mind we have an ultra-fast (50-Mbps)home broadband networking and 4G iOS devices that we're viewing from and all that plays a part in how good the image will be so how far this device will "see" is determined by more than just the camera.  I will say though that buying this particular PTZ Cam was the absolute right one to buy. I now have the need for 2-more IP cams and will buy this exact model again.

How does the WiFi protected feature work? Does this prevent others from viewing video?

Question 6

I've read two reviews that mention a monthly fee for recording if you don't want to store directly to the SD card. Does this mean you cannot record directly to a DVR or DVR software on your own PC? There is next to no info on the avueinc web site and the nice videos say nothing about it.

I have a 32gb class 10 mini-sd card that I use for this and it works fine. Just remember to delete every few weeks or depending on how much recording you do.

Question 7

Has anyone successfully used this camera with the Synology Surveillance Station? It's not listed as compatible on Synology's web site, but I'm wondering if this camera uses standard protocols that Synology can access. Thanks!!

I actually asked AVUE Support, which was responsive, about this, as the camera advertises RTSP, etc.  They said right now it is intended only for use with their software but they will consider opening interfaces for use with 3rd party applications in the future at which point there would be a firmware update.

How do you set this up with the mounting bracket they provide?

For Mounting, the center of the bottom of the base is threaded. Allowing it to be mounted top , bottom or side. I have not used the mounting screw. I just set it flat and let this thing Rock. Hope this helps

Want to use in my father's assisted living facility. Can the wireless be initiated with a PC connected to the facility's WIFI or does it require being connected DIRECTLY to their hardwire?

The unit is wifi capable, but from what I have seen with mine, you need to hardwire it when you first set it up. Make sure you have the wireless antenna plugged into it and then set up the wireless on it. Once you have wireless connected, just unplug the network cable and make sure you still have a connection by checking your phone or on your desktop.
