Question

Does this have a  legacy BIOS boot ROM?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it does. The LSI SAS2308 controller, which is the chip on your card, is designed with firmware that supports both Legacy BIOS and UEFI boot modes.

However, there are a few important details regarding your specific card:

· Firmware Dependency: For the card to be bootable in a legacy system, it must have the legacy BIOS option ROM (often called mptsas2.rom) flashed onto it. This is separate from the main firmware, and sometimes sellers flash cards with only the UEFI ROM, so it's worth verifying the exact configuration if you intend to boot from it.
· BIOS Setting: In your motherboard's BIOS, you may need to ensure the "Legacy Option ROM" or similar setting is enabled for the PCIe slot where the card is installed to allow it to initialize during boot.
· Mode Setting: The card supports both "Legacy Boot Type" and "UEFI Boot Type." You can select the appropriate mode in the controller's configuration utility, which is usually accessible during the system's POST screen.
