The MCP4728 offers two selectable reference voltage sources: One is the input voltage on the VCC pin, and the other is an internal 2.048V reference voltage. When using the internal reference voltage (referred to as Vref in the DAC), you can choose a 1 or 2 output gain, allowing the voltage range to be adjusted from 0V to 2.048V or 0V to 4.096V based on application requirements. By default, the input voltage is used as the reference voltage (Vref), enabling you to set the voltage range to 0V to 3.3V or 5V according to the input supply. Alternatively, for about 3.3V applications, you can use the 2.048V reference; for about 5V applications, the 4.096V reference is available.
