The Edifier R1280DB is a pair of powered Bluetooth bookshelf speakers with 42W RMS output, 4-inch bass drivers, and Bluetooth, optical, and coaxial inputs. They suit listeners who want flexible audio for a home desktop, TV, or music setup without a separate amplifier.

    Recommended For

    • Desktop listeners who have room for bookshelf-sized speakers and want fuller stereo sound than typical compact PC speakers, with Bluetooth and wired inputs for switching between devices.
    • People upgrading a small TV setup who want separate left-right speakers and can connect by optical or RCA rather than HDMI ARC.
    • Listeners who want one powered pair for a computer, TV, and phone, with optical, coaxial, dual RCA, and Bluetooth inputs instead of a separate amplifier.
    • Casual music listeners who prefer a warm, smooth presentation and want bass and treble controls to adjust the sound for their desk or TV placement.

    Real-World Use Scenarios

    • At a desk, connect a computer by RCA or optical—or pair it over Bluetooth—to listen to music, videos, and games through a stereo pair; reviewers describe the R1280DB as suited to desktop use, with enough volume for a typical PC setup.
    • For a small or modest-room TV setup, connect the TV’s optical output to the speakers to get stereo sound from shows and films without adding a separate receiver; check the TV’s audio-output settings and remote-control needs before choosing this setup.
    • When listening from a phone or tablet, pair over Bluetooth to play music without running an audio cable; this works well for casual listening when the device is within Bluetooth range.
    • In a shared desk or living-room setup, keep a computer, TV, and phone connected through their available inputs, then switch sources when changing activities instead of unplugging and reconnecting cables.
    • For vinyl listening, connect a turntable that has a built-in phono preamp to an RCA input; the speakers provide playback without a separate amplifier, but a turntable without a phono preamp needs one externally.
