Does it come with toner?

It came with a small starter set of that will last a little while.  you should start shopping for a replacement set so you know where you can get them for a deal. . . the on-board toner monitor starts nagging you with low toner notifications with enough time to order and receive your replacement

Dells website says this device prints 600 x 600 dpi...which is it?

I've never seen 4800x4800 dpi mentioned for this unit. I would trust Dell on it. I print with it all the time and 600 is all that I recall as being the max resolution

The specs say Duplex; Duplex what? Duplex Printing? Duplex Copying? Duplex Scanning?  Which one or more is it?  Thanks.

Duplex printing, scanning (and thus copying) is simplex

I like the printer but the black ink ran out after less than 250 copies.  We are a small business and use it for the occasional letter or invoice we  need to print out.  New black cartridge is $68.  A set of all 5 colors is more than the printer was.  Specifications says 2000 prints. New Egg says, "sorry" is there anything else I can help you with?  Can I use the refurbished ones?  A whole set is the same price as one DELL color.

you need to shop around better, i saw a full set of colors and black on a basic web search for under $50

Does this print 2 sided automatically? It says Duplex but some places say it's not?

This printer has what the instructions call "manual duplex".  What this means is you print side one then take the printed page and put it back in the machine to be sent through again to complete your print. Dell specifying it has duplex is very deceptive.
