This PLANET MTB-SR compatible SFP+ transceiver carries 10GBASE-SR and 10GBASE-SW traffic over multimode fiber at 850nm through an LC duplex interface, reaching 300 meters on OM3, 400 meters on OM4, and 82 meters on older OM2. For in-building links where multimode plant is already installed, short-reach optics deliver the same 10 Gigabit at a fraction of long-reach pricing.

Built-in Digital Optical Monitoring reports temperature, voltage, and optical power in real time, which is worth having on switches sitting in cabinets or industrial enclosures where a physical inspection is inconvenient. The module meets the SFP+ MSA, SFF-8431, SFF-8432, and IEEE 802.3ae standards, so it interoperates cleanly with other vendors' optics at the far end.

Every unit is programmed with PLANET EEPROM coding and tested in PLANET 10G switches and network devices before it ships, so the port recognizes it exactly as it would the OEM MTB-SR, at a much lower price. Typical uses are switch uplinks, surveillance and industrial networks, server room links, and short campus runs.
