This Cisco SFP-10G-SR compatible SFP+ transceiver carries 10GBASE-SR and 10GBASE-SW traffic over multimode fiber at 850nm through an LC duplex interface, reaching 300 meters on OM3, 400 meters on OM4, and 82 meters on older OM2. Short-reach optics like this are the workhorse of in-building 10G: they cost far less than long-reach modules and cover the distances that actually occur inside a data hall or between floors.

Built-in Digital Optical Monitoring reports temperature, voltage, and optical power in real time, so a dirty connector or a fading transmitter shows up in monitoring before it takes a link down. The module meets the SFP+ MSA, SFF-8431, SFF-8432, and IEEE 802.3ae standards, so it interoperates cleanly in mixed-vendor networks.

Every unit is programmed with Cisco EEPROM coding and tested in Cisco 10G switches, routers, servers, and network interface cards before it ships, so the port recognizes it exactly as it would the OEM SFP-10G-SR, at a much lower price. Typical uses are top-of-rack to aggregation links, server connections, wiring closet uplinks, and campus runs within a building.
