ER70S-6 is the most widely used copper-coated mild steel GMAW (MIG) wire for single or multiple pass welding. It contains the highest combination of manganese and silicon deoxidizers, enabling higher welding currents with 100% CO2 and CO2/Argon mix shielding gases. This produces a smoother weld bead with minimal to no post-weld cleanup. The wire is copper-plated and layer wound. It is particularly well suited for sheet metal applications or structural plate steels that have moderate amounts of rust, oil, or mill scale. Typical uses include construction work, farm implement fabrication, general shop applications with poor fit-up, and welding rusty, oily plates, tanks, steel castings, or forgings.
