The SimpliCare AET-R842 Medical Grade Infrared Thermometer gives you two clinically reliable measurement methods in one compact device. Use the ear canal (tympanic) mode for core temperature readings or the direct-contact forehead mode for quick everyday checks. FDA 510(k) Cleared with ±0.2°C accuracy.

Direct-contact forehead reading in 1 second. Ideal for quick everyday checks on older children, adults, and anyone who resists ear measurements. Cap on = ready in seconds.
EAR CANAL MODE -Tympanic (CAP OFF)
Tympanic ear canal reading for core body temperature. Preferred by many parents for babies 3 months+ and young children. LED ring lights the ear canal for precise probe placement every time.
SILENT MODE/ NIGHT MODE
All beeps silenced for nighttime temperature checks. The display stays on so you can read the result — but your sleeping baby stays asleep. The LED ring still illuminates the ear canal in the dark.
Cap On = Forehead Mode. Cap Off = Ear Mode. It's That Simple.

Cap on — forehead mode
Attach the magnetic probe cap and the AET-R842 enters direct-contact forehead mode. Press the button and touch the forehead for a reading in 1 second. Ideal for quick routine checks on older children and adults.
Cap off — ear canal mode + LED ring
Remove the cap and the device automatically switches to tympanic ear canal mode. The built-in LED ring illuminates the ear canal for accurate probe placement — even in a dark nursery or bedroom at night.
How to Get an Accurate Reading — Ear or Forehead
Power on & select mode
Press the power button. Cap on = forehead mode. Cap off = ear mode. The LED ring confirms ear mode is active.
Position correctly
Forehead: touch gently to forehead center. Ear: insert probe gently into ear canal until sealed and press button. The LED ring shows where to aim in the dark.
Read the result
Reading appears in 1 second. LED color shows fever status instantly. Wait 5 seconds before re-measuring for a second reading.
Tips for best ear accuracy
Gently pull the outer ear up and back to straighten the ear canal before inserting the probe. Wait 30 minutes after outdoor activity. Follow the direction indicated carefully — correct positioning is the key to consistent readings. For babies under 1 year, always consult your pediatrician on preferred measurement method.
