How do you know what size to get. .5 1.0 or 1.5 I have no idea as the original pads are squished so I don't know what they were. Can I split the deference and just go with 1.0 and if its to small I can order bigger but if its too big will it still work ok?

You'll actually have to order the right size. It will squish a little bit but not much. Too thin and it won't make contact, too thick and the parts won't fit together correctly and something else might not make contact. I would buy the 1.0 and see how that works out, if its the wrong size you could then order the right size. Depending on use you can sometimes get away with buying the 0.5 and stacking them together to get the correct thickness.
