Prior to SynScan V 3.01 the handcontroller had to be placed in a special "serial mode" for this to work. From SynScan V 3.01 onwards the handcontroller is always in serial mode, and is always ready to talk with a serial connection.

In this mode the SynScan unit provides the alignment and goto algorithms and must be configured with time, date and location. Some Planetarium may provide native support for EQMOD ASCOM drivers others may require the use of the ASCOM platform and associated ASCOM Drivers
