The HRB8825 Stepper Motor HAT is a professional stackable motion control expansion board designed for Raspberry Pi series single-board computers and NVIDIA Jetson Nano development kits, widely used in precision motion automation projects.
Equipped with two independent HR8825 high-performance stepper motor driver ICs, this module can simultaneously control two sets of 4-wire bipolar stepper motors to realize X/Y dual-axis coordinated movement. It supports six optional microstepping resolutions configured through onboard DIP toggle switches: full step, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 and top-level 1/32 microstepping. The 1/32 subdivision greatly improves positioning accuracy, eliminates motor jitter and resonance during low-speed operation, delivering ultra-stable running performance critical for precision equipment.
Each channel delivers a peak driving current of 2.5A, and two blue precision potentiometers are reserved on the PCB to manually limit output current according to motor parameters, effectively preventing overheating and coil burnout. The motor power input ranges from 8.2V to 28V DC, compatible with common 12V/24V power adapters for industrial stepper motors.
Multiple reliable protection mechanisms are integrated on the circuit, including overcurrent protection (OCP), thermal shutdown protection (TSD) and power supply undervoltage lockout (UVLO), which safeguards the driver chips and connected motors during long-term continuous operation. An embedded 5V voltage regulation module can output stable power to the host Raspberry Pi board, simplifying the overall power supply wiring of the whole system.
It adopts official Raspberry Pi HAT standard structure, directly plugged into the 40PIN GPIO header without extra wiring. Screw terminal blocks and lock-in plug sockets are both available for stepper motor connection, bringing flexible and firm wiring. The manufacturer provides full technical documents, wiring diagrams and ready-to-run test programs based on BCM2835, WiringPi and Python language, lowering the secondary development threshold for makers and engineers.
Perfect application scenarios include DIY desktop 3D printer axis control, small CNC engraving/sculpturing machines, multi-degree-of-freedom robotic arms, automatic sliding tables, intelligent sorting equipment and student electronic competition automation projects.
