This multifunctional general-purpose robot driver board is professionally designed for embedded robotics development, adopting the mature Espressif ESP32-WROOM-32 wireless microcontroller as the core control unit, building a secondary sub-control system to offload low-level motor drive and sensor data collection tasks for main computing boards.
It achieves seamless hardware docking and bidirectional data transmission with Raspberry Pi 4B/5 and NVIDIA Jetson Nano through UART serial communication and reserved GPIO pin headers, effectively expanding the peripheral driving capacity of high-performance host controllers. For wireless control, the board integrates three mainstream transmission methods: 2.4GHz WiFi, Bluetooth BLE and ESP-NOW proprietary protocol. Different from WiFi which relies on routers, ESP-NOW realizes direct peer-to-peer communication between ESP32 devices without network configuration, with transmission latency lower than 10ms and open-space transmission distance up to 200 meters, perfectly meeting real-time remote control and multi-robot swarm formation coordination requirements.
The core driving part adopts dual TB6612FNG H-bridge motor driver chips, each channel outputs 1.2A continuous current and 3.2A peak current, far more efficient and lower heat generation than traditional L298N drivers. It supports independent forward, reverse, braking and stop control for 2 groups of encoder DC reduction motors or 4 ordinary DC motors, meanwhile reserved dedicated pluggable ports for digital PWM servos and serial bus servos to build robotic arm and steering wheel structures. Multiple standardized interfaces are pre-soldered on the PCB, directly compatible with laser ranging radar, 9-axis attitude IMU, ultrasonic obstacle avoidance sensors, infrared tracking modules and other common robot accessories, greatly simplifying wiring and assembly work.
In terms of power supply and circuit safety, the board supports wide-range DC 7V-13V external power input, matching 2S and 3S lithium battery packs commonly used for mobile robots. Built-in reverse polarity protection, overcurrent fuse and voltage stabilization circuits prevent chip burnout caused by miswiring or sudden current surge. Four positioning mounting holes are reserved at the corners of the circuit board, which can be firmly fixed on all kinds of robot chassis with screws. The whole hardware is fully compatible with Arduino IDE and MicroPython programming environments, with rich open-source demo codes for secondary development. It is widely applicable to intelligent obstacle avoidance cars, crawler exploration robots, small mechanical arms, automatic navigation AGV trolleys, student STEM competition projects and maker personal customized robotic equipment, greatly lowering the technical threshold of intelligent robot hardware development.
