The APC BR1500MS2 is a 1500VA/900W tower UPS with sine-wave output, AVR, and a user-replaceable lead-acid battery. It suits home offices and users protecting computers or other sensitive electronics from outages and voltage fluctuations, with backup for up to 14.5 minutes at half load.
Recommended For
- Remote and home-office workers who need a desktop, monitor, and modem to ride through brief outages or voltage fluctuations long enough to save work and shut down; the UPS includes AVR and supports computer communication software.
- Gaming-PC owners whose system stays below the 900 W limit and who want sine-wave battery output plus a short window to save and shut down. One owner reported about 7–8 minutes while gaming at a 700–750 W load, so runtime will depend on the actual setup.
- Home NAS and small home-server owners who want battery protection during brief interruptions and a chance to trigger an orderly shutdown. A Synology user reported connecting the BR1500MS2 to a NAS and setting shutdown thresholds for both the NAS and PC.
Real-World Use Scenarios
- A desktop or gaming PC loses power during a brief outage: the UPS keeps the computer running long enough to save work, exit a game, and shut down. It’s a short-term bridge, not a way to keep gaming through an extended outage.
- During a brief power cut while working from home, a PC, monitor, and network equipment can stay on temporarily, giving the user time to save files and shut down rather than lose work immediately. Actual backup time depends on the connected load.
- For a home network or small homelab, users can connect a modem, router, switch, and NAS to keep them powered through a short interruption. With compatible monitoring and shutdown settings configured, the NAS can be given time to shut down cleanly if the outage continues.
- In a home with occasional voltage dips or fluctuations, the UPS’s automatic voltage regulation can correct some input-voltage variations without switching to battery, helping connected electronics keep operating through those conditions.
- For a TV and game console, the UPS can provide time to save or pause where possible and turn the equipment off during an outage. APC’s runtime example for a 335-watt TV-and-console load is about 21 minutes; actual runtime varies with equipment and battery condition.
