Is web access handled within this unit or is it external via a DNS type server? I have two systems, not this brand, I can access directly via the internet, by port forwarding my router, without the need of using a DNS server. I have another brand that I just cannot figure out. That is the main reason I am looking at this unit. thanks in advance please excuse if the question posted twice.

web access is by port forward .

What's the signal transmission range?

This is a wired system not wireless. Cams are clear, remote view works great. I view cams using my cell phone and tablet. I added a wireless mouse for setting up system. I would buy another Night Owl if I needed another system. Also added a computer monitor and a HD tv so I can watch live cams from my office.
