Will the Technical Pro 72-ST1100 play mp3s (I have thousands) from a stand-alone remote hard drive via USB?

Also, is there a 'shuffle' feature to allow random playback, or a way of accessing the playlist?

I'd like to connect directly with my home stereo amplifier without using a computer or television.

Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced unit that will.

Yes it will play from a stand alone remote hard drive.  Yes it has a random search and access to your playlist.  As long as your amplifier has a hdmi adapter there should be no reason you cannot hook it up

Does it include a power amp of any sort or is it just a tuner/pre amp?  Output per channel? Number channels?

definitely a power amp...not sure the specs but is pretty loud.
