Is this SATA2 or SATA3 (6gbps)? The manufacturer's page mentioned the chipset, which I then googled and found the chipset manufacturer specs and that indicated it was only a SATA2.

Never got that far as I purchased it for the ISO feature, and it doesn't work. I would strongly recommend against buying this device as their specifications are suspect and their support us pitiful.

Can I use the device to install on OS during POST?

that's exactly what I use it for... you load ISO images on it, set one of the images as your "boot DVD" and the machine, if it will boot from a USB dvd drive, will boot off the image
