Do the LEDs look like they do in the photos? (sort of with the curves coming in the spiral formation)

But I'd say from working with this brand with multiple cases.
It will look like that but tinted darker, which makes it look cooler imo. 
This company doesn't really cheap out and gives you the tint. Nzxt usually makes you buy the higher end model to get tinted. This one will have tinted plexiglass all around. Or whatever it's made out of.

Can this fit a standard ATX motherboard 12.0" x 9.6"?

How do I mount a hard drive without the rack?

When you remove the back panel you will have an area for 3 Standared HDDs and your system PSU as well and you can mount up to 2 SDDs in the front, from the back as well. It's called a "Basement" lol. it's a bit tight on space but it works.
No fear tho, the case comes with instructions and I love it so far.

Is 415mm VGA support inclusive space for SSD mountings?  What is the total internal length including fans?

Well, I am not able to measure the internal length at the moment but I currently have a gtx 1080ti and an ssd mounted in the case with plenty of space leftover. However I do have a m-atx motherboard.

are the expansion slots breakoffs?

There is only one slot in the front for a CD/DVD/Blueray player. I snaps out and back in, unless you are clumsy like me and break it :/

3pin fans, but still a great case. The case is still worth the money. Just replace the fans.

They have a 3 pin that goes into the mother board and  they have 4 pin molex. Not sure it you have to plug in the molex but I did anyway.

Yes you can, front air flow isnt the best but their are side mounts for your 2.5 inch drives  so you can mount fans on other parts of the case
